ABSTRACT
Based on the investigation by Komite Nasional Keselamatan Transportasi (KNKT), freight transport accidents in Indonesia often result from brake failure due to overheating. This is attributed to the Full Hydraulic brake system using brake fluid to transmit pressure from the pedal to the wheel cylinder. Vehicle users must ensure brake fluid condition by checking its water content. This research aims to determine critical parameters or water content thresholds as a benchmark for brake approval. The experimental study controls the independent variable, water content in brake fluid, affecting the dependent variable, brake performance measured by Brake Tester. In a case study of a 1.2-ton goods vehicle, findings show that water content influences brake test results. Below 2% water content for axles I and II, vehicles fail brake tests. The threshold for water content in brake fluid is <1%, indicating the need for replacement according to DOT standards.
