ABSTRACT
The brake shoe is a braking system component that wears and requires periodic replacement. This study aims to compare mileage with thickness and ensure operational safety according to UIC set-07 standards. Methods include radiographic testing and Vickers microhardness testing per JIS 4309 standards. Results show that brake shoes on trailer cars wear faster than those on motor cars. A 20 mm thick brake shoe shows better durability compared to an 18 mm thick one. Radiographic tests reveal no cracks in the brake shoe structure. The hardness of a 20 mm thick brake shoe is 303.39 HV, while an 18 mm thick one has a hardness of 293.75 HV. The wear difference between 20 mm and 18 mm is less than between 26 mm and 24 mm, 24 mm and 22 mm, and 22 mm and 20 mm, indicating that lower hardness values lead to faster wear.
